I have a spontaneous side..and it usually shows up when you least expect it..ready to throw all caution to the wind. I did a crazy thing by signing up for my first half marathon..Zooma in Colorado..but I recently dropped another $75 for the Denver Rock and Roll Half! I can hardly believe myself…I kinda like it. ;) At this rate I’m going to have many many races under my belt by the time I am 25..now that is exciting! Well today I had my long run..all the previous long runs have been dreadful and have taken far too much time..so of course I was nervous. I have found that I expend far too much energy worrying about my long runs…once I get out there and shake off the initial dread…my head clears and I can put all my energy toward the task ahead rather than letting my nerves get the best of me.
I have a fabulous partner in crime..she is my adopted mommy and I love her to death. We have set out to train together and so far it has been an absolute blast!! For those of you who are not aware..the Zooma course will take place around the Broadmoor which happens to be a very hilly part of town..perfect for our 1st I know..ha! Of course we must be prepared for the hills that loom in our not so distant future so we made our way down to run part of the course..the most hilly part. They are hard, brutal, and nonforgiving…but doing this gave me a peace..a strong realization that we can absolutely do this! It was a cold day..perfect running weather. It drizzled the whole time and in the last 2 or so miles it poured..and I loved it! It was like a gift from God..I felt so good and energized..in sync with the rain as we both pounded the pavement. This run is the last I will dread and frett over. It was great and I truly enjoyed myself. Thank God I have Gina..I dont think she will ever realize how much I truly love and appreciate her. Thank God for sweat sisters..I pray you can find one as great as mine to share your miles with.
